-- Received a reply dated 11 Jan 2001 from Christoph Schröter, Pastor em.,  Quedlinburg parish, Adelheidstrasse 12, D-06484 Quedlinburg, GERMANY.  He says:  "In charge of the 3 Protestant churches in Quedlinburg for "ancestors work" I received your letter (20.Oct.2000) just now.  In the 17. century 5 Protestant churches existed in our town.  Only in one of them,St. Nikolai (parish New Town) I found Marie Witte (the name Witte is usual then in other parts of teh city too, but with different names).  The name Elsholtz is unknown here.  The text follows:  "26. Augusti (1665) Hanß Witte eine Tochter Maria genandt.  Die Pathen:  1. Steffen Carsten, 2. Andreas Möhlbach, 3. Maria, Daniel Giesecken Hausfrau." = "26 August 1665, Hanß Witte [had] a daughter named Maria.  The witnesses:  1. Steffen Carsten, 2. Andreas Möhlbach, 3. Maria, Daniel Giesecken, housewife."  I hope this note is what you need.  Marriage of the parents:  "18. May 1652 Hans Witte, Bürger und Ackerknecht allhier und Catharina Heinrich Reicharts von Ditburg hinterlassene Tochter" = "18. May 1652 Hans Witte, citizen and laborer servant, of this parish, and Catharina, daughter of deceased Heinrich Reichart from Ditburg."  Hans Witte was baptized 30 May 1627, died 2 June 1672. 8 children were born, Maria was Nr. 6.  The father of Hans Witte had the same name.  He died 31 Aug 1636. -- Checked Bürgerbücher 1658-1850 (for Quelinburg).  On FHL 1633136, searched beginning to 1662 (frame 66).  Found only one entry for a Witte.  I don't imagine it could be this person, as he was from Wittenberg, and the one found was from Mooßbach:  "Den 5 Juny ist Hanß Wittig außen Vogtlander von Mooßbach...1659 (frame 19).
